Leaving all customers with no access to their funds.

At approximately 12:15 am Eastern time the following message was displayed on
Jetsets site.

Jetset Poker will be closing forever in 5 Minutes.

Jetsetpoker will be closing forever in 4 minutes.

And so on until the lights went out and the server and email contacts are no
longer accesable.

What a sad state of affairs. Reminds me of the Pokerspot fiasco with Russ Boyd.

SO it is possible for these rooms to take your funds and shut down.

Jetset has never had any phone access whatsoever and there email customer
service was the worst in the industry. The one good thing they had was excellent
software.

Well who is next.

they seem to be desperate to keep players from cashing out.

The sudden and unnecessary rake back and deposit incentives are there to

On a side note..  I do expect the USA to allow domestic online gambling

I think you are probably talking about their poker client. I was just
pointing out that the web site at http://www.jetsetpoker.com/ is still
up with no mention of closing (at least for me it is still up). It
seems odd that they haven't posted a message on their web site about
this yet.

This is an incorrect interpretation of stock price.  Alot of fund
managers pulled cash out of Party, etc but kept it in the gaming sector
by dumping it into other casino stocks.

Not to mention that there was a bid from a private company to buy Harrah's.
This had a lot more to do with their stock going up than anything else.

Except, of course, that they announce on their web pages that they're
owned by Thramo:

Thramo Services Ltd.
      Thramo Services Ltd.
Vincenti Buildings, Suite 252, 14/19, Strait Street
Vallenta VLT 08 Malta, MT 0

And they're regulated by:

So if they end up not contacting their players, you know your recourse.

Update, a Jetset player just reported in another thread:

"..and right after making this angry post, I receive an email from
JetSet,
asking for an accurate mailing address in order to receive my remaining
balance via check."

And we still have yet to see who is first. It may happen. But as you

They were small, but they had nice software and some innovative ideas, such as
the headhunter tournies, where based on your TLB rank, there was a bounty on
every head. They were fun and a bit different. Hope some other site will take
some of their better ideas and use them.

Support was always good for me and I am surprised at the way this appears to be
turning out. Haven't played there for a while, but I hope you guys get your
money.

Yeah, that was me. SOMEBODY at JetSet sent such an email. However, I'm of
the opinion that the person who sent that email was the one person at
JetSet who wasn't in on the scam.

JetSet was accepting deposits as late as ten minutes before closing down.
I'm told (though I didn't see this for myself) that they had increased the
rake on the cash tables to 20% in the hours before closing down. Are these
the acts of a site that intends to deal fairly with its customers? Do you
really think they intend to give anyone their money back, after doing
everything the could to collect as much cash as possible during those last
few hours?

I'm not holding my breath.

If they told their affiliates or whatever that was in the other thread

I'm not panicking; I'm just pissed off. There's a difference. I agree with
some other posters here that it's foolish to keep too much money on an
online gambling site. If someone lost more than they could afford to lose,
then that was their own dumb fault.

I'm not panicking; I'm just pissed off. There's a difference.

> I admit it looks and sounds awfully shady, but people need to

If it was just about my couple of bucks, I'd chill the fuck out. But I'm
pissed because
(a) I don't belive for a second that Jet has any intention of giving
anyone their money back,
(b) this flight-by-night (literally - it happened just after midnight,
EST) might just be the first of more to come, and
(c) Jet's actions here are going to give credibility to these pretentious,
self-appointed moral watchdogs who support this stupid legislation against
online gambling.

Honestly. It's going to be hard to argue against online gambling
prohibition once stories about JetSet (as well as the next few sites who
will do the same thing) start to hit the news. If the Republican
leadership doesn't seize upon this story to use as political propaganda,
I'll be really surprised.

Playing Morphy's Advocate here...I've had real good customer service from
them in the past.  I've also had really bad.

Right now all people have to go on are the facts.  Based on what's been
posted here, this is what I've seen.  I don't know if these are facts or
not, but they have been posted at least once to RGP, so I'm just
summarizing them...

- Deposits were taken up until 10 minutes before the site shut down,
forever.
- Rake went up to 20% hours before the site shut down, forever.
- A pop-up showed up 5 minutes before the site went down saying they
should shut down, forever.  5 minutes later the site did, indeed, shut
down.
- Emails showed up an hour later informing players that they would receive
checks with the balance of their accounts.

Now...there have been other remarks made, but these are the ones that
stand out to me.  Looking on the surface, the first 2 make no sense.  It's
not like they decided at literally the last minute to shut down.  So why
accept deposits up until the last minute?  And why in the world would they
increase the rake hours before the site shut down?

So sure, people like the posters in this thread may be overreacting, but
if you look at the facts that have been presented as such, do you blame
them?  Do you have any explanations for why this was done?

This next paragraph is purely speculation, and has nothing to do with
JetSet in particular...but it would be real easy for a smaller site to
shut down and blame the bill, err, law, I mean.  The privately run
companies don't have to declare profits to anyone.  They could very easily
have been having money problems for a long time now, and see this as a way
out.  Use the US Govt as a cover, and bow out of the market, without
anyone really knowing (other than speculation) what the real reason for
them shutting down is.  They are in a country running an unregulated
business, and know that their customers have no recourse against them,
legal or otherwise.  They take the money and vanish, blaming everything on
the US Govt, at least at first, but merely fall off the face of the earth
after that.

Just some thoughts.  I have a feeling we'll be seeing more things like
this, as well as a lot of phishing and other scams similar to the one
Tanya posted yesterday.  It's not really time to panic, but if it looks
like a duck and quacks, there's a good chance it's really a duck.

And if a person weighs the same as a duck, they're a witch.

I've only seen one person mention the increased rake thing, so dunno if
that's actually true or not.   That would scare me if it were true, but I
don't buy that it is.   I would think that'd require a software upgrade to
actually do (though I don't know for sure), so to suddenly increase the
rake prior to shutting down doesn't seem plausible.   I tend to be an
idiot on these things though.

The same goes for the deposit thing, but that seems like it could be true.

I'm not saying they're not going to fuck everybody over, clearly its an
option.   But all this kneejerk stuff to every thing related to this bill
is just a waste of breath.

I can attest to #3 -- I was playing when the pop-up window came up
notifying us that the site was shutting down "forever" in five minutes.
Why the rush?  Suspicious behavior for a site.

At to #4, I did not receive any e-mails from the site acknowleding the
receipt of my payout request, or assuring that all payouts requests
will be honored.  I did not receive a reply to e-mails sent to both
supp...@jetset.com or the other e-mail address that another poster
provided.

I think it's perfectly reasonable for persons affected to voice their
concern over the situation.  A lot more reasonable than waiting "6 to
12 weeks" for a cashout, then wondering what's going on.  I'm not gonna
sit here and rant about a crooked site, though, b/c it is too early to
tell if we've been screwed, but it's definitely something I'm worried
about.

Agreed.  I'm merely stating that although you and I know better than to
take things posted on RGP for the truth, others aren't.  Others see a post
saying "they increased the rake to 20% hours before they shut down" and
assume it's 100% accurate.  Given that, it's easy to at least see why
people are freaking out about this.  On the surface, it sure does seem
fishy.  That's why I tried to at least state that I was merely summarizing
what I read, rather than drawing conclusions from it.

There are a number of reasons for cutting things loose with little to no
notice, and most of them are fairly legit.  Think of a company having to
lay off an entire department.  Even if the people are level headed and
there isn't a thread of physical security or welfare, it's still in the
best interest of the company to cut the ties swiftly and completely.

I wouldn't take the time of not receiving a reply into account just yet.
Most sites take several hours to respond.  You have to assume that JetSet
has received a good number of emails since they shut down, and their
customer service staff might be innundated with requests.  That is, if any
of them still have jobs.  Some sites email promptly, others take a while.
Hell, GamesGrid, who doesn't have more than 50 players on the site at any
given time took over 8 hours to reply to an email of mine last night.  A
lot of people jump to conclusions based on email response speed, and it
isn't justified.

It's reasonable to voice concern.  It isn't reasonable to see what has
been done and automatically assume the owners have run off with the money.
I'm not defending them by any means, I'm just saying there's quite a bit
that has to go on, and while the 6 to 12 weeks may seem unreasonable to
some, it very well could be the reality of what has to happen.

We're in agreement here.  I was not one of those that assumed JetSet
stole my money.  I posted to express my shock that the site shut down
with 5 minutes warning (for those who were playing at 12:15am ET) and
lament that fact that I cancelled an earlier check request for $2,000.
I still hold out hope that I'll get paid, but wish I had less at risk.

I thought JetSet was a fun site to play on, particularly the headhunter
tournaments.

The "increased rake" thing was second-hand information; as I said, I
didn't see it myself.
Leave it out of the argument, then. I never should've mentioned it.
Accepting deposits until the last minute is bad enough. The whole thing
smells bad. Clearly.

Oh, by the way....

I guess reasonable speculation based upon known facts makes me an
"alarmist motherfucker". Too funny. Who's panicking, by the way? I haven't
seen anyone in panic. I have seen people who are disappointed and/or
pissed off. You realize there's a difference, right?

Fair enough. Now that I've cooled off a bit, I can admit that you make
some good points. My problem was even imaging a scenario under which the
observed actions could have been carried out by people who weren't out to
rip everyone off. I'm still hugely skeptical, but can at least imagine now
that it's possible.

So, fine. Maybe I'm wrong about this. I certainly hope so. Hopefully I
will have to come back here and apologize to JetSet for those earlier
pissed-off remarks. Time will tell.

My bet is you won't be eating any crow.
